Darkness wasn't her greatest fear by any means, but entering into the unknown depths of the basement was more than enough to set Adelaide's nerves on edge. Her knees kept buckling, or her feet kept getting caught on the steps- And every time she would be steadied by a striped-clad arm. John would mutter a soft "easy there" and stop, patiently waiting for her to regain her balance, before setting a slower pace to try and avoid future stumbles. Every time, Adelaide's gaze would insistently flicker towards John's hand, and she felt her own hand twitch, wanting to reach out and interlock their fingers: itching to find solace in the warmth of an
